Enlightenment

It feels like a state of worship
only it’s going into me this time, not out of me.
I touch the walls and I bless the cross.
Thanks for knowing how to let it go with me.
And all our past lovers who ruined us
we escaped from and thrive in spite of .
All the music we can’t listen to anymore
Is replaced by the songs we couldn’t listen to then.
We’ll never let anyone change us a gain.
Thanks for learning that with me.
And though we retreat into each others arms
We man our own battle stations.
We laugh with coy smiles at each other’s receding darkness.
We watch with knowing eyes as we empower ourselves.
We kiss the cracks where we put ourselves back together.
We cry when each other’s wounds reopen.
And though I can’t say that this will last,
Thanks for being my equal.
